Joel Camathias is going to take part in the  F. 3000 Season 2002 Championship, with a novelty; this year he will not run the FIA Championship, but the European. The impossibility to find a good top team to race for and his strong desire to be competitive, induced Joel to change his plans, ramaining anyway in the same hight level category.

He will  partecipate in  the Euro F.3000 Championship, with the team Nino Famà (he ran  the Euro F.Nissan with the same team, in 1999 and 2000), whose engineer, Massimo Pollini is a well known and appreciated  technician. The italian team now owns the ex-Nordic cars, dominators of the last ediction thanks to the drivers, Wilson - the  champion - and Enge. Camathias had already tried these cars at Estoril and in Barcelona, during the winner test, although he couldn’t get a good agreement with the team leader.

Joel Camathias preferred to give up being the second driver of a F.3000 team without great ambitions, in order to be at the top of the Euro F.3000, that will probably offer him good chances to come back to the international championship in the near future. Moreover he will have the possibility to attempt many other motor racing tracks.

The young swiss driver with an Italian licence (Automobile Club Bergamo), has already practised twice (Santamonica track, Misano) with his new car, recording good times.

The Euro F.3000 consists in 10 races: Vallelunga (April,21),  Nurburgring (May,),  Pergusa (May,19),  Monza (June,30), Spa-Francorchamps (July,28), Donington (August,11),  Brno (September,8),  Digione (September,22), Cagliari (October,6) and  Jerez (October,13).

In addition to the races with his Lola-Zytec, Joel Camathias will take part again in some international races, driving a Porsche GT3/N, for the Italian Team Autorlando Sport (Bergamo). This is a big opportunity for him to make experience on the most known international traks. Joel will run all the races that are not concomitant with Euro F.3000 championship: Lausitzring, Jarama, Spa-Francorchamps 24 Hours and Estoril.
