Mont-Tremblant/Saint-Jovite, Québec, April 30, 2002 - Richard Spénard, Director of Canadian Operations for Skip Barber Racing School, today unveiled Skip Barber's 2002 program of activities for its Mont-Tremblant school. At a news conference, Spénard introduced his race-instructor staff to the members of the motorsports media and announced that the Mont-Tremblant affiliate will be the only Skip Barber Racing School in North America to exclusively use the R/T 2000 single seater for its three-day instructional program.

"Being involved in a venture of this magnitude is a big challenge, but when Michael Culver, President and CEO of Skip Barber, approached me at the end of last year, I didn't hesitate a moment before accepting the offer," remarked Spénard. "I knew how serious this company is about racing and I felt that it posed some interesting long-term opportunities. Even though they gave me a fancy title, I'm a hands-on person and I plan to be deeply involved in the day-to-day operations, as I was when I had my drivers' school in Shannonville. Some drivers go to a racing school for the pleasure of it. Others go because this is where they start learning the basics of their motor-racing career. Both of these types of students are very serious in their approach, even though their goals are different, and it's very important for us to give these people our full time and attention."

The racing instructors recruited by Spénard for Mont-Tremblant's Skip Barber School, are seasoned drivers who have compiled an impressive record in their respective motorsports careers. Jean-François Veilleux, one of the instructors, will be a close associate of Spénard and throughout the summer, he will also work closely with instructors Claude Bourbonnais, Jean-François Dumoulin, Sylvain Champoux and Martin Roy. Spénard also introduced Robert Desrosiers, Sales/Marketing Director for Skip Barber Canada and Patrice Marchessault, a teaching specialist for the Corporate Racing Program.

"All of the members of my team are professionals who are experts in their respective fields," noted Spénard. "Mont-Tremblant's Skip Barber School will be able to meet the demand because this year we have set aside 45 days of track time for our three-day instructional programs, our advanced two-day technical driving program, lapping/practice sessions and corporate racing program. It's certainly noteworthy that the Skip Barber School at Mont-Tremblant will be the only one this summer to conduct its three-day school with the R/T 2000 single seater." 

The three-day racing schools will be run on May 3 and 27, July 15, August 12 and September 18. The other two- or three-day dates for the school's other programs are May 6 and 30, June 13, July 12 and 29, August 1 and 15 and September 21. Unlike the American-based Skip Barber schools where the three-day racing school is conducted with the wingless Formula Dodge, the Mont-Tremblant school will exclusively use the R/T 2000 single seater equipped with front and rear wings. The car is powered by a  16-valve, 2-litre production, 4-cylinder Dodge engine tuned to deliver 150 bhp at 5,800 rpm with the rear wheels driven through a Gemini 5-speed sequential gearbox.

 "Our students will be able to hone their driving skills in a very up-to-date race car  developed by Skip Barber Racing School, Reynard Motorsport and the Dodge division of DaimlerChrysler AG, and this is one of the major resources that sets apart from the competition," stated Spénard.

L'ÉCOLE DE COURSE SKIP BARBER DU CIRCUIT MONT-TREMBLANT DÉVOILE LE CONTENU DE SES ACTIVITÉS POUR LA SAISON 2002

Mont-Tremblant/Saint-Jovite, Québec, le 30 avril 2002 - Richard Spénard, le directeur des opérations canadiennes Skip Barber, a dévoilé aujourd'hui le contenu des activités et les dates des cours qui seront dispensés cette année par l'École Skip Barber Mont-Tremblant. Par la même occasion, il a présenté aux membres de la presse spécialisée les instructeurs qui l'assisteront dans cette nouvelle entreprise. Spénard a également annoncé que l'école du Mont-Tremblant sera la seule école Skip Barber à dispenser ses cours de trois jours avec la monoplace R/T 2000.

« Ce n'est pas évident de se lancer dans une telle aventure, mais lorsque Michael Culver, le président de la compagnie Skip Barber LLC, m'a approché à la fin de l'année dernière, je n'ai pas hésité un instant car je connaissais le sérieux et l'ampleur de cette compagnie ainsi que les opportunités qui m'attendaient à long terme, a déclaré Spénard.  Malgré le titre pompeux qu'on m'a donné, je vais être très près des activités quotidiennes tout comme je le faisais dans le temps de mon école à Shannonville. Certains élèves suivent des cours de pilotage pour leur plaisir tandis que d'autres viennent ici pour établir les bases de leur carrière de coureur automobile. Ces deux types d'élèves sont très sérieux dans leur approche même si leurs buts sont différents, et il est important d'accorder à chacun tout notre temps et notre considération. »

Les instructeurs recrutés par Richard Spénard pour l'École Skip Barber Mont-Tremblant sont des pilotes chevronnés qui ont un palmarès assez éloquent en course automobile. Ils possèdent également une vaste expérience dans l'enseignement. L'instructeur Jean-François Veilleux travaillera étroitement avec Spénard et aura l'occasion de travailler tout au long de l'été avec Claude Bourbonnais, Jean-François Dumoulin, Sylvain Champoux et Martin Roy. Spénard a également présenté Robert Desrosiers qui vient d'être nommé directeur vente/marketing de Skip Barber Canada et Patrice Marchessault qui est le spécialiste de l'enseignement pour les programmes corporatifs de l'école du Mont-Tremblant.

Les dates suivantes ont été retenues pour les écoles de course Skip Barber de trois jours :  3 et 27 mai; 10 juin; 15 juillet; 12 août et 18 septembre. D'autres dates, de deux ou trois jours, ont également été réservées pour nos autres activités, soit le 6 et 30 mai, le 13 juin, le 12 et 29 juillet, le 1er et 15 août et le 21 septembre. Contrairement aux écoles Skip Barber américaines où les cours de trois jours sont donnés avec des formules Dodge sans aileron, l'école du Mont-Tremblant utilise exclusivement la monoplace R/T 2000 munie d'ailerons avant et arrière. Cette voiture est propulsée par un moteur Dodge de 2 litres qui transmet la puissance aux roues arrière avec une boîte séquentielle Gemini à cinq rapports. « Les élèves auront l'occasion de faire leur apprentissage au volant d'une voiture moderne qui a été développée par l'École de course Skip Barber, Reynard Motorsport et la division Dodge de DaimlerChrysler AG, et c'est un des atouts majeurs qui nous démarque de la compétition, » conclut Spénard.

Skip Barber possède la plus grande flotte de voitures de course au monde. La vingtaine d'écoles de courses Skip Barber opèrent à partir des meilleurs circuits routiers situés en Amérique du Nord.
