F3000 Championship 2002   -   Qualifying, Interlagos-Brazil

 FIA Formula 3000 International Championship

Disappointing qualifying for Patrick Friesacher at Interlagos: Position 17 after a bad accident and just one flying lap.

Team-mate Ricardo Mauricio on position 8 and with some real chances for points.

Pole position: Sebastian Bourdais (FRA).

For Patrick Friesacher the new season started with a very disappointing qualifying,

when the young Austrian lost his car just at the beginning of his second, timed lap. His Lola was damaged on the rear very seriously and there was no chance to repair the car for the rest of the qualifying.

Patrick F.: "I feel so sorry for my team. It was my fault, but it happened completely unexpected, when I came over the curbs and lost my car over the rear. Starting from the 17th position, tomorrow will be a very tough race for me! But I will try everything, to come close to the points.”

Team-mate Ricardo Mauricio will start from 8th position into tomorrow’s race. Ricardo missed a better place by an “unluckily decision of the marshals, when they called me in for weighing my car - just ten minutes to go. So I had no chance, to use my last set of tyres. But there is still a good chance for points!”

First pole position of the season: Sebastian Bourdais, France.
