Another
two points for Red Bull Junior Team.
Patrick
Friesacher as man of the race – from position 9 to 5.
Ricardo
Mauricio came off the track and made a test-run out of the race.
Winner:
Two-times poleman 2002, Sebastien Bourdais (Fra)
The
sun was shining over Imola and therefore all the teams had to change their
set-ups from yesterday’s rainy qualifying. Especially the Red Bull Junior
Teams seemed well prepared for today’s conditions. They did a great job just
before the race was started.
Patrick
Friesacher was not really happy after the qualifying from Friday and the 9th
place – in the middle of nowhere. But the young Austrian had an excellent
start and found himself on position 6, right after the first two laps. Then he
pushed really hard to come closer to Tomas Enge, the former Prost Formula
1-pilot from the Czech Republic. Lap 17, Variante Alta, Enge did a little
mistake on the brakes, and Patrick F. could overtake the Arden-pilot.
For
the last few laps, Friesacher became faster and faster. A compliment to his
fitness and his mental strength, to put out everything till the end of the race.
Team-mate
Ricardo Mauricio was very fast as well, sometimes too fast. That is why the
young man from Sao Paolo went off the track and came into deep gravel. After a
short control-stop at the box, Mauricio used the rest of the race for some
testings for the next round at Barcelona.
Patrick
F.: “Maybe Imola does like me a little bit. My second fifth place here at the
autodromo. A special thanks to the team for a nearly perfect car. I could push
all over the race and that’s good for me. And now I hope, to get my first
podium at Barcelona. Even there I was fastest at the official FIA-test this
year.
Winner:
Sebastien Bourdais of France, after his second poleposition this year, followed
by the new overall-leader Rodrigo Sperafico (Bra) and Giorgio Pantano (Ita).
