Strong race from Ricardo Mauricio – position 4 an another 3 points.
Patrick Friesacher went off the track in the first lap – place 11!

Winner: Giorgio Pantano (ITA)!

The third race of the F3000 championship 2002 in Barcelona should become one of the most thrilling one of the last years. Right from the start, poleman Sebastien Boudais was in front followed by Tomas Enge and Giorgio Pantano.

Both Red Bull junior team drivers had a very good start, catching one position each. Mauricio came out of the start fourth, and was only able to put Enge under pressure in the beginning, without any chance to overtake him.
Mauricio finished fourth, driving rather an unspectacular race.

'I had the chance. to get Enge right at the first five and six laps. After 15 laps, the car´s handling was completely different. I had very bad overstearing and now chance, to make any pressure. But the fourth place finally was o.k.!'

Patrick Friesacher went off the track right at the end of the first lap, to came back on the circuit over an emergency exit. The young driver from Carinthia was losing seven positions: 'I was beside Tocacello during the first lap, but always on the very dirty side of the track. Than I lost the car - and that´s it. Sorry for the race, but now I am looking forward to the A1-circuit and a much better result!'

The fight for the first two positions was a spectacular one though, with Pantano repeatedly trying to overtake Bourdais. Although the French first was able to stay up front, it was not until 6 (!) turns before the end of the race, that Bourdais made a decisive mistake and both, Pantano and Enge overtook longtime leader Boudais.
