FIA F.3000 International Championship 2002 – A1 Ring (A):

Pantano 4^th and Toccacelo 6^th : Coloni Motorsport conquered with Pantano the head of the driver’s  championship!  

A1 Ring has not been as we expected after the qualifying practice, but at the end we are happy about the race, because before the start Pantano suffered a big problem on his Lola and he started out of the pit just 20” before the red light. The our two drivers jumped very well at the start and managed the first corner in 2^nd and 3^rd position. But, just out off the corner, Toccacelo slided over the kerb and Wirdheim passed him. At the Remus Kurve, the Swedish overtook also Pantano, who did not want to take any risks. At the exit of the corner, Pantano did a little mistake with the gear box and Toccacelo, who was behind him, is forced to brake. So Haberfeld, Friesacher and Saelens passed him and Enrico slumped to seventh, while Pantano lost the third position and receded in fourth place. Under the chequered flag, Pantano maintained his position, conquering three very important point for his campaign. Now, Giorgio is on the head of the championship. Toccacelo finished in sixth position and scored another point, demonstrating his potential and constancy of performances. 

Coloni Motorsport: “We lost a big opportunity with Pantano to set a big gap in the driver’s championship . But, anyway, we are happy. Pantano had a good race and he suffered a lack of grip in the first laps, because he had not the possibility to warm his tyres in the warm-up laps. Toccacelo did a good race, but he has been unlucky today. The team worked very well and our two Lola finished in the points. We are looking forward with confidence for the next races, because our car is performing very well.”
