International F 3000 Championship 2002, Monaco, 2002-05-25
Red Bull Junior Team in principality of Monaco.
Both drivers optimistic about upcoming weekend:
Friesacher: "I still have to make up for last year's race here!" Mauricio finished 6th here last year, at his come-back-race for Dr. Marko.
The race classic as such is awaiting the Formula 3000 community this weekend, Monte Carlo, with its 35 laps through the venerable streets of the mundane principality.
Patrick Friesacher already made points twice this year and just recently finished 5th in his home race on the A1 Ring, thus certainly becoming even more confident for this upcoming and rather demanding challenge.
Patrick F. "I am trying to improve my physical fitness, as it is especially important for this race. You better not make any mistake at all here - otherwise you're out. That's what happened to me last year and I would certainly like to avoid it this year.
In 2001 I did okay in the training (finishing 6th) but in the race I just made too many mistakes and ended up 13th - 3 laps behind! In general, I really like street races and I also feel quite comfortable in these narrow streets. Like always, I'll just need a strong qualifying and a perfect start!"
Ricardo Mauricio came back into Dr. Helmut Marko's Red Bull Junior Team in Monte Carlo last year - and had a good race right away, finishing 6th after keeping the Czech Tomas Enge at distance in an exciting duel. First of all, the Brazilian would like to make up for the negative Spielberg
result here in Monaco. Ricardo Mauricio: "This is one of my favorite circuits - and I am of course counting on making points again - at least!" Mauricio too already made points twice this year - in Sao Paolo (3rd) and in Barcelona (4th)!
