International Formula 3000 Championships 2002.
Race 5, Monte Carlo - Qualifying:
Patrick Friesacher: Strong Qualifying and 3rd position in row 2 for the Red
Bull Junior! "I am satisfied with the result - here in Monaco, it is especially important to have a good starting position. I am glad I made it even though I had a spin in the Rascasse and could not drive for the last 11 minutes!"
Team mate Ricardo Mauricio is rather disappointed with his 12th position!
Pole position for Sebastien Bourdais (Fra)!
The Qualifying for the international Formula 3000 Championship race in Monaco ended with a more than delightful result for Austria: Patrick Friesacher finished 3rd in this morning's Qualifying and will therefore start from the second row tomorrow.
The young driver from Carinthia was one of the fastest up from the beginning - after the first 45 minutes, he was even up front. He then spinned in the Rascasse and had to end the Qualifying 11 minutes before the end. But even with his 3rd position, we can expect quite a lot for tomorrow's race!
Patrick Friesacher: "I could have done even better today, but exaggerated a bit in the Rascasse,
11 minutes before the end. I spinned and went into the planks ... and the training was over! This result is very important, especially here in Monaco, where you are the center of attention - in every respect. For tomorrow I of course hope to have a good start, as this is already half the race here. Being on 3rd position, I will have a clean track - maybe I'll be able to do something right away. As far as the set-up is concerned, I believe we are very well prepared for the race!"
Team mate Ricardo Mauricio did not do that well today. After his 6th position in his come back race for the Red Bull Junior Team last year, he was behind for almost a second after pole position. Ricardo Mauricio: "I am behind just too much - The set-up was not good at all. In my fastet lap, there was a lot of traffic - which is normal though, for Monaco. It will definitely be difficult tomorrow!"
The French Sebastien Bourdais will start from pole position for the third time this season tomorrow!
The race will start at 16.00 tomorrow and will be broadcast live on Eurosport!
