F3000 Championship 2002, Nürburgring - race. 
Patrick Friesacher showed a strong performance again,
finishing 4th at Nürburgring and making 3 points!
"I knew it right at the start: If I was able to finish the race without any mistakes there was going to be a lot in it today! The result simply is great ... it's the best I could do!"
 
Red Bull Junior team mate Ricardo Mauricio (BRA) finished 9th.
Winner: Sebastien Bourdais (FRA) in front of Ricardo Sperafico (BRA) and Antonio Pizzonia.
 
This afternoon, race 6 of the International Formula 3000 Championship was held at Nürburgring under cloudy and windy weather conditions. Immediately after the start, the Formula 3000 field passed the new "Mercedes-Arena" without any troubles, the Red Bull Juniors Patrick Friesacher and Ricardo Mauricio being on positions 8 and 10 after the first lap.
 
Then, Enge span, Toccacelo came off the track, and Friesacher was thus on 6th position and on his way to get points already at the beginning of lap 3! Up front, overall leader and "poleman" Sebastien Bourdais had the race under control and kept Ricardo Sperafico (BRA) and Rob Nguyen (AUS) at distance! In lap 10, Nguyen and Toccacelo touched each other and consequently both lost a couple of positions - Friesacher thus was 4th already - only 1.2 seconds behind Pizzonia and a podium position! Friesacher unfortunately was unable to attack the Brazilian though and after 30 laps, Bourdais won - convincingly - in front of Ricardo Sperafico and Antonio Pizzonia, Patrick Friesacher
finishing 4th. He is now ranked 5th in the overall ranking!
 
Patrick Friesacher: "I am of course entirely happy with today's 4th position! I knew it right at the start: I had to finish the race on this extremely difficult course without any mistakes! The result simply is great ...considering the very disappointing training result!" Though driving very committedly, his team mate Ricardo Mauricio unfortunately again did not make any points today and finished 9th.
