INTERNATIONAL FORMULA 3000
ROUND 6 - NÜRBURGRING, GERMANY
Press
Release, 22nd June 2002
Tiago Monteiro
starting in 16th position was hoping to stay clear of any incidents and finish
in the top ten in today's 30 lap race in Nürburgring. Tiago got away
cleanly at the start only to have an unfortunate accident on the second lap
when he hit into Mario Haberfeld who had spun in front of him on a corner.
Unfortunately this put an end to his race and he was very disappointed not to
gain some more race experience.
Tiago Monteiro "It was a bad weekend for us, but like Monaco it could have been good. We had a good car in qualifying and in the second session I could have made a good time if it wasn't for the problems with the yellow flag. I made one place at the start and then Briscoe overtook me and then I overtook him again. I just tried to get the tyres into temperature when Mario Haberfeld spun in front of me. He didn't brake and I was very annoyed. It's a shame because once again I didn't get to gain a lot of experience as it was a short race for me and I couldn't really show what I can do. Overall a frustrating weekend but I am already thinking about Silverstone now and if we keeping working well for every race I think we will get closer to the front and then I will be away from all those troubles at the start."
Team Manager - David Sears “Tiago Monteiro had
another unfortunate result with another DNF due to Mario Haberfeld spinning in
front of him and he hit him with his front wing and he had to retire
immediately. The second half of the season hopefully should be a marked
improvement for Tiago as he understands the car better and the races are at
circuits he has previously tested on or raced on.”
