FIA INTERNATIONAL FORMULA 3000
ROUND 7 - SILVERSTONE, ENGLAND
6th July 2002
The Super Nova driver Tiago Monteiro started in the fourteenth position for
the 30 lap race which was held in dry conditions today at Silverstone. Tiago
Monteiro got away well at the start but was squeezed out of a few positions at
the first corner and he had dropped to sixteenth by the end of lap one.
However he regained some positions when Haberfeld and Mauricio spun off and
when he overtook Nguyen. He was pleased to get some more race experience
and finished in thirteen position.
Tiago Monteiro P13
"I had a good start but then I was squashed between two cars at
the first corner. I didn't want to go off again and I lost some places.
After that I was just trying to keep the rhythm and balance but the track was
very slippery maybe because of the F1 cars which had been out before, so I
really struggled with the grip and balance. I had a busy race fighting
all the way and I think I had one of my best overtaking manoeuvres on Nguyen.
The most important thing from today is that we finished the race and I used it
as a test session, really pushing hard to see how the car was doing and how
the tyres were wearing. Now we have to keep up the good work as well
furthering my experience. The next track I know so lets see what happens
there."
Team Manager - David Sears
"Tiago Monteiro finished in thirteenth place and had a solid
finish but he realised he needs to improve his qualifying to move further up
the result sheet. His team-mate Sebastien will be helping him with
advice on that subject during the next two weeks."
