FIA Formula 3000 Championship
Round 8/12, Magny-Cours
Race, July 20 2002
Weather: hot sunny

Rob Nguyen: 11th, 35 laps in 55m 21.413s / Team Astromega

„It is good to get another race distance under my belt. I suffered mostly because of my qualifying accident, which left me a long way down the grid and with a lot of work to do in the race. I stalled before the formation lap, but managed to restart in time to take my original position on the grid, which was a relief. I managed to gain a couple of places early on and, after that, I was stuck in a tough midfield battle with four or five cars running nose to tail. I was pleased with my pace once the raced settled down and I felt in good shape physically, even though conditions were hot and the car was sliding around quite a lot as the tyres began to lose their edge. It would have been nice to get another finish in the top ten, but I was pushing hard to pass Tiago Monteiro for ninth place and he squeezed me wide at the hairpin, which caused me to lose momentum and lose a place. I am now looking forward to next weekend’s race at Hockenheim, because it is a brand-new track that nobody has driven and for once I am not starting out at a disadvantage to most of the others."
