FIA INTERNATIONAL FORMULA 3000
ROUND 11 - SPA, BELGIUM
31st August 2002
Light rain began to fall just before the start of today's 22 lap race but fortunately it was not heavy enough for the team to have to change the cars to wet tyres. Tiago Monteiro who started from twelfth position on the grid was unfortunately involved in a first corner pile up on lap one which lead to immediate retirement.
Tiago Monteiro – DNF "Overall it has been a really bad weekend. It didn't start very well for us and then got even worse today. After qualifying the whole team did a lot of work in briefing so it is very frustrating to finish like that. I broke really late and had overtaken a few cars and I thought I was passed then someone hit me. So really frustrating for me and the whole team but that's racing and now I have to look forward to Monza."
Team Manager - David Sears “Tiago Monteiro's race lasted only as far as the first corner where he got involved in a multi car pile up and was eliminated with suspension damage. Hopefully Tiago can finish up the season on a high at Monza."
