FIA INTERNATIONAL FORMULA 3000
ROUND 12 - MONZA, ITALY
Tiago Monteiro was lying in twelfth position when he touched Rodrigo Sperafico's car in front.  This damaged his front wing and he had to pit for a new one on lap 21 out of 26.  When he rejoined the field he was fifteenth but managed to move back up to eleventh by the end of the race.

Tiago Monteiro "It was an interesting race, I overtook seven cars and I got a lot of experience.  The car had a pretty good balance and I could push a lot, but eventually Sperafico broke really early at the chicane and I just touched him.  So again my front wing was broken and I had to come into the pits. After this I had three laps to get back up the grid and because of the safety car on the last lap I overtook two more cars.  It was an interesting race, not a great result but I think I could have been in the points if I hadn't have touched Sperafico but I got a lot of experience which was really good. I'm sad for Sebastien and the team because he was so close to the title and I wish him all the best for next year.  I'm looking forward to starting again next year."

Team Manager - David Sears “Tiago Monteiro had an eventful race getting up from sixteenth to twelfth until he touched the back of Rodrigo Sperafico and had to make a pitstop to replace his front wing.  He was classified eleventh at the end due to a couple of further retirements. It's been a really tough learning year for Tiago Monteiro but hopefully next year he will benefit from the experience of the 2002 season."

Classification: 1st. B. Wirdheim; 2nd A. Pizzonia; 3rd Thomas Enge... 12th Tiago Monteiro a 7.8.
