Derek completed the first two days of testing, in preparation for the 2001 FIA Formula 3000 Championship, at the Jerez Circuit in Spain this week.

A total of eight teams and sixteen cars took part in the test held on Tuesday and Wednesday this week. Several series regulars took part and a number of new drivers looking to compete in 2001 were also present.

Driving the Kid Jensen Racing Lola 50/99 Derek set a best time of 1:34.770, right on the pace. He completed a total of 108 Laps and worked through a pre- determined program without incident.

Engineering Director of Kid Jensen Racing, Simon Barker oversaw the test and commented " Derek has done a solid job over the last two days - he made no mistakes and improved his lap times run after run. It has been a pleasure working with him and we look forward to continuing our test program next Tuesday in Estoril"

Simon has a vast depth of experience at the highest levels of Motorsport having worked as a race engineer with the Tyrell Formula One Team, before joining forces with another ex-Tyrell employee Vincent Franchescini and radio personality David "Kid" Jensen in 1997 to establish Kid Jensen Racing. They won their first F3000 race in 1999.

" The test has been very good, we were right on the pace and managed to complete our full program. The Lola 50/99 is very similar to my 96/00 that I have raced in Italy this season, but much better in several areas. I have enjoyed being back in a real open wheel racer and can't wait to carry on in Estoril next week" Derek commented from Jerez.
