Brazilian Jaime Melo Jnr has qualified 15th out of 14 competitors in the 3rd round of the International FIA F.3000 Championship in his visit to the Spanish circuit at Barcellona, today. Melo clocked 1:35.293 in the second session run in dry conditions. In the first session of qualifying Melo and his technician G.Reggiani concentrated on the set up of the car, then Melo showed a constant improvement. Unfortunately, 18 minutes before the chequered flags, while he was 13th, he spun into the gravel. An unlucky qualifying for his team mate Gabriele Lancieri whose Lola suffered a gearbox problem after only 3 laps run at the beginning of the first q.session. Team Durango Benetton Junior then verified the breaking of the 3rd gear.
JAIME MELO - 10°, 1:35.293: "I was managing for a clear lap when I spun finishing in the gravel. I think it would have been possible to qualify in first positions, but I needed the 15 minutes I lost at the end of the second session to do so."
GABRIELE LANCIERI - 25°, 1:39.101: "This is
a snag that can happen to everybod but, unfortunately, I had that problem during
the first minutes of session 1 while I was learning the brake points and the
track, as well. The car felt good and I think that the work on the set up made
last week at Monza is going to give good results."
