COCA-COLA NORDIC RACING A1-RING QUALIFYING REPORT

 FIA Formula 3000 International Championship

FIA F3000 International Championship
Round 4 (of 12). A1-Ring, Austria.
Qualifying report. Friday May 11th.

Rain stops play in Austria.

Qualifying for the fourth round of the FIA F3000 International Championship in Austria saw Coca-Cola Nordic Racing drivers Justin Wilson and Tomas Enge qualifying in fourth and fifth place respectively.

Both Justin and Tomas set their fastest times in the first session to take their places on the second and third row of the grid. For the fourth consecutive race the pair placed their Coca-Cola Nordic Racing Lola cars in the thick of the action at the front end of the grid.

Things could have been even better for the team had the second session not been spoilt by rain, which saw the track become a lot slower.

“The car felt great in both sessions, wet and dry, and it is good to be starting another race near the front,” said Wilson. “Of course I would have loved to have been on pole again for this race, but the traffic today meant that this was not to be. Still, I am fourth and I have everything still to fight for. What I must do is make sure that my start is good tomorrow and I intend to fight for the lead from the word go.”

Enge, winner of the previous round, added: “This is a nice circuit to race at and if both Justin and I can make good starts, then we shall be pushing for the podium places straight away. It is very important for both of us to finish with as many points as possible.”

Team Manager Chris Mower said: “This is our second best qualifying position of the season and I am very happy with both of our drivers today. Of course it would have been nice to repeat the one-two that we had in Spain but it was not to be today. We shall be looking at all our data tonight and if we can get the car set-up as good as we had for the race last season here, then I anticipate that they shall be finishing on the podium. As long as both drivers can make a good start then we shall be in contention for a race win.”

The race shall be shown live on EUROSPORT at 14.00hrs CET.
