RACE. 30th June.

WILSON AND ENGE ON THE PODIUM AGAIN

Coca-Cola Nordic Racing drivers Justin Wilson and Tomas Enge maintained their teams 100% podium appearances record with both drivers finishing in the top three at Magny Cours, venue for round seven of the FIA F3000 International Championship.

Wilson finished the race in second place, ensuring his lead at the top of the drivers’ championship table remained the same. Team mate Enge finished the race in third place.

Starting from the pole position Enge found himself dropped down to second when he missed a gearshift at the start of the race. Meanwhile Wilson, starting from fourth place on the grid, was able to move up into third position. Enge chased race leader Webber hard for the lead but quickly found that he was starting to lack grip in his tyres as the track temperature soared.

A thrilling chase ensued as Wilson chased Enge for second place, the two drivers transforming an otherwise processional race into an exciting prospect as Wilson tried desperately to pass. It is a great tribute to the skill and professionalism of these two drivers that they were both able to partake in this high-speed game of cat and mouse with fear of touching.

Eventually, as the race drew to a close, Wilson was able to pass Enge for second place.

“Having started from fourth on the grid,” explained Wilson, “it was nice to be able to work my way back up into second place. Tomas drove a great race, keeping me at bay for almost the entire distance, and I am sure that we have made this exciting for everyone watching.”

Team Principal Derek Mower added: “Both Tomas and Justin drove a strong and fair race, and along with Webber they were the class of the field today. Yet again both drivers finished on the podium with Justin still leading the championship and with five races still remaining this is turning into a very exciting season.”

Team Manager Chris Mower agreed: “Both our drivers did a fantastic job today and credit must go to both of them. Justin for working his way up into a second place finish and the championship points that ensured - Tomas for keeping Justin behind for so long despite his tyres not being at their best. Now we look forward to our home grand prix at Silverstone where I am sure both Tomas and Justin shall be once again on the podium.”
