The leading trio of the F3000 championship 2001 was also the leading trio of todays race at Magny Cours. Right behind the three F3000 routiniers Patrick Friesacher brought home an excellent fourth place - after 5 rounds without any points at all. Position 4 also means to Patrick F.: Best Rookie – and best personal F3000-result so far.

The 20-years-old Red Bull Junior started into the race without any risk and lost one position. In lap one he had to defend his fourth place against Darren Manning – but after all he could find is rhythm and hold position. In the following laps, Patrick had a lot of problems in the braking zones, even at Adelaide. The race set-up was not perfect, so he had no chance to go the speed of Webber, Enge and Wilson.

At the second half of the race, Patrick F. got some pressure from behind, especially from Darren Manning. But Friesacher finally could hold his fourth place up to the finish line of Magny Cours circuit.

Patrick F.: "I am very happy with this weekend. Even the qualifying brought me back to the top positions. I have to work very hard on my start and the first lap. Here I am still losing too much time at all. Also my set-up was not the best one. But the fourth place is a fine result for me!”

Red Bull-team mate Ricardo Mauricio already went off in lap one.
