Lancieri e Melo qualify in 17th and 21st position. At the Brazilian driver, in particular, is cut off his best lap after he was helped by the
stewards of the meeting to get back the track when he finished in the gravel. From
19th position he drops in 21st place.
GABRIELE LANCIERI - 17th, 2:01.015: "I used only 1 set of tyres during session 1 because we preferred to concentrate on the car set up. From the data analysis the engineers have seen that I was quick in the fast part of the circuit but also that I lost my advantage at the Motodrom. For tomorrow race I think we will start with a low down force configuration to gain more positions as possible as I'm recently used to do."
JAIME MELO - 21st, 2:01.489: "It has been a difficult qualifying for me
and the team. We did different modifications on my Lola to obtain a car better balanced. In particular I had a problem at the first curve where it
's very important to exit well to gain speed in the following fast part of the track. My time was 2:01.158 but then, whike I was driving a fast lap,
I finished in the gravel and I was helped to get back the track and this is a manoeuvre not allowed by the sporting regulation so I dropped in 21st
position with my 2nd fastest lap."
