Just few days before Budapest's race team Durango Benetton and Jaime Melo Junior announce the interruption of their collaboration. Pinton and Magro make an agree with the Spanish Antonio Garcia. 21 years old, born in Madrid, Garcia has driven his first F3000 race this year running for team Red Bull in the first 4 appointments of the 2001 season. Unknown for him the Hungarian track where he qualifies 21st after a good first part of the session during which he was lying position12. 23rd his team mate Gabriele Lancieri in difficulties after having committed some mistakes and spins.

ANTONIO GARCIA: "It's not easy to understand each other when it's the first time you work with some new people: they have to learn my way to drive and work and the same is for me towards them. So when I first arrive here I knew it would not have easy to reach immediately a good result, also because in F.3000 International Championship we don't have time!! We tried different configurations and meantime I tried to learn the track and in which part I was committing my mistakes. Then we have analysed the data and for tomorrow race we will make some modification on my actual set up and I will start to gain positions."

GABRIELE LANCIERI: "This is a very strange and stupid track and it's not easy to drive it! Like many other I spun finishing close to the gravel.. After qualifying the Zytek changed my engine. I really hope tomorrow to make a very good start as I'm used to do."
