The final race-weekend of the F3000 championship 2001 started without any qualifying on Friday – due to the heavy thunderstorms and rains around Monza.

The FIA stewards rescheduled the F3000 timetable with a short cut qualifying of 20 minutes on Saturday, immediately before the race will start.

Friesacher was 7th at the grid, Mauricio started from 13th position. Poleposition for Antonio Pizzonia, British F3-champion 2000.

The final race of this season has been started on 3.30 p.m. –  and three starts were necessary.

Pilots like Mark Webber and Mario Haberfeld stalled their engines.

Patrick had a normal start without any troubles at the starting straight – he was on sixth position right in the first chicane, when Tocaccelo crashed into his car, followed by Manning on the other sight. The end of the final race for Patrick F. was something like a typical end for an unluckily season.

Patrick F.: “Unbelievable – today I would had have all the chances for my first podium. But some of the drivers did not want to see me there, obviously! I am not very unhappy, that the season is over now, after all the problems and bad luck of the last races!”

Mauricio finished 7th at his first Monza-race ever; Giorgio Pantano of Italy did win his first F3000 race ever – he was the winner of the F3-chanpionship in Germany 2000.
