F3000
– on the road to Formula 1
In
2001 Austria’s motor sports fans will
more than ever have an eye on the FIA - F3000 Championship – with good reason:
For
the first time in years an Austrian driver will again participate in the F3000
At
only 20 Patrick Friesacher from Carinthia will become Austrias most important
formula driver in 2001 – as he is straight on his way to Formula 1.
Patrick Friesacher is part of the Austrian team of Dr. Helmut Marko, the Red Bull Junior Team F3000. The second driver of the Red Bull Junior Team F3000 is the Spaniard Antonio Garcia – the Cart World Champion 1994 and winner of the Formula Nissan Open 2000!
Generally,
the F3000 will be launched in red-white-red colours – with the
principal sponsor Red Bull and also mobilkom A1 as the most
renowned companies in the international motor sports business.
For
years the F3000 has been the immediate stepping zone for Formula 1 – uniform
chassis (Lola), uniform engines (Zytek-V8), and tyres (Avon) – drivers like
Nick Heidfeld, Heinz Harald Frentzen, Oliver Panis, Pablo Montoya and Enrique
Bernoldi finally made it into the Royal Category.

Dr. Helmut Marko has been in motor sports since 1979.
Since
1996 rsm-Marko has been in the Formula 3000 Championship which they managed to
win at the first attempt with the German Jörg Müller.
In
1997 Juan Pablo Montoya came in second. As
is generally known last year Montoya won the legendary „Indy 500“ and has
this year joined the BMW Williams Formula 1 Team.
Xevi
Pujolar, Patrick F.’s race engineer, is from Spain and has been in the F3000
for Dr.Marko since 1999. He is a very precise engineer who originally worked for
Formula Nissan in Spain. Marko. He produces lots of theoretical work for
calculations and is fully responsible for data management. Before he started his
motor sports career he had studied car engineering in France.
Antonio
Garcia’s car is prepared by an old friend: Rupert Buchsteiner who has
been with the Marko team since 1990 with just one interruption
(1998 Nakano race engineer in the Minardi-Formula-1-Team). Since 2000
Buchsteiner has also been simultaneously involved in the vehicle development
department of Steyr-Daimler-Puch.
Patrick
Friesacher – A Speedy CAREER
Patrick
F.’s career has progressed at enormous speed – particularly during the past
months.
„To
me this is not only an enormous joy and a recognition of my performance, but
also, above all, a sign of the trust placed in me by others whom I do not want
to disappoint in any way. This
is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.“
The
decisive success factors for Patrick Friesacher’s advance into Formula 3000 on
the one hand were the „performance in the German Formula 3-Championship 2000
(2 victories, 3 poles), but also the excellent results at a Hungarian test
session as well as the personality of the twenty-year-old from Carinthia.
Dr.
Helmut Marko: „From the start Patrick was super fast on all routes – i.e. he
has the required speed. Considering his age he also possesses detailed technical
know-how and a faultless character. I have great expectations for him even in
his first F 3000 season in 2001!“
The
first official tests took place at the end of November 2000 in Barcelona and
Estoril, when the twenty-year-old Carinthian attracted lots of attention
particularly in Portugal: third place, only two tenths of a second behind the
winner.

RED
BULL – THE HIGH FLIER AMONGST ENERGY DRINKS
Attentive
observers of motor
sports will certainly have noticed:
Maximum
speed, concentration, and stamina – no matter whether on two or on four wheels
– are always characteristic of drivers and teams in the sign of the Red Bull.
The
Red Bull range stretches from the early activities in cart sports via junior
formulas such as BMW ADAC Formula
Junior Cup, Formula König, the German Formula 3, Formula 3000 to Formula 1. The
Red Bull Yamaha Team was also adequately represented in the GP 500, the royal
category of motor racing, in particular with the grand performances of Garry
McCoy.
The
co-operation with A1-mobilkom, in particular, will be decisive for the future
development of Austrian Motor Racing for years.
The
Red Bull Energy Drink is a top fuel for the racing pilots, a drink which has
been developed particularly for times of increased physical and intellectual
strain.
In
most cases the drivers already had close, long-standing ties with Red Bull –
as regular consumers –before the company developed from a pure „energy
supplier“ into a partner of the racing industry investing man power,
enthusiasm, as well as financial and logistic support.
